United Nations declares as a democratic principle that information about its activities should reach out to all member states, therefore there are a number of UN libraries and information centres set up around the world.

Central Libraries of the UN Organization

The UN Central Libraries are Dag Hammarskjöld Library, New York (UNHQ) och Library of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), which also includes the archives of the League of Nations.

Other UN Central Libraries are found in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Depository Libraries

Through a worldwide system of UN depository libraries, all members of the United Nations have free access to documents, reports, books and other printed and electronic resources.

The Dag Hammarskjöld and the Law Library

The Dag Hammarskjöld and the Law Library, Uppsala University Library is a depository library of the United Nations, holding Scandinavia's most complete collection of UN documents in print covering the period 1946-1992. More recent documents can be accessed through electronic archives and special databases.

Other UN depository libraries in Sweden

Besides the Dag Hammarskjöld and Law library, Uppsala, UN collections can be found at the Riksdag Library, Stockholm, and at the University Library of Gothenburg and the University Library of Lund.

Information Centres

The network of United Nations information centres (UNICs) links the Headquarters with people around the world. The United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe, UNRIC is located in Brussels and offers information about the UN in different languages.

UN Associations

In order to provide information on and raise public opinion about the UN within its members states, there are national UN associations in several member states. They are linked together through The World Federation of United Nations Associations - WFUNA. UNA Sweden is one of these associations. The national UN associations as well as WFUNA hold consultative status at the ECOSOC, according to the document, List of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Counci, 2008.
